Daventry Cup
Success followed by a Muddy Weekend!
Old Scouts 0 - 23 Daventry
Daventry travelled to Old Scouts
on Tuesday evening to play for a place in the semi final of the Lewis
Shield.
With a very strong wind behind
them, Daventry dominated the first half, with the forwards providing an
excellent platform and the backs capitalising on this with exciting and
expansive rugby. A flurry of tries later, the half time whistle was
blown with Daventry in a comfortable lead.
Even more impressive was the
second half, where Daventry were playing against the wind, yet held an
excellent defence to ensure the home side did not gain a point. Man of
the match was Velcro Collett.
This was an excellent
performance from the All Blacks who will be looking forward to the semi
final clash and an opportunity to gain a place in a Franklins Gardens
Final.
This performance was followed on
Saturday with a friendly against an Old Northamptonians team on a muddy
afternoon.
Despite the weather, the team
and spectators were in good spirits and the game began with the All
Blacks forwards competing well, eventually leading to a push over try
from a scrum. Bradley Wardell was the scorer.
The game then began to fragment,
and the Daventry scrum quickly leapt from dominance to difficulty,
giving the visitors possession in dangerous field positions. However,
the All Black defence remained strong with Ricky Haynes showing some
ferocious tackling at fly half and Dave Marks also tackling well.
Although Daventry were close on
several occasions, they only managed one further try through Kevin Moore
following a clever kick from Gareth Dudgeon. In response, Old
Northamptonians scored three to win the game. Man of the Match was prop,
Tim Saunders.
