ALL BLACKS SLIP UP
FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 29 - Despite getting
their first point of the season Daventry
will be bitterly disappointed not to
have come away with the win.
Even though they were out-scored by
three tries to two, Daventry should have
won this game and will regret not
capitalising on a heavy period of
pressure towards the end of the
first-half. A converted try by Lee
Collett after some good cohesive forward
play meant Daventry held a 13-8
first-half lead.
A bulldozing run from the Casuals prop
meant they went into the break still in
touch.
For the first time this season Daventry
seemed solid in the scrum with Billy
Carter's experience proving crucial
upfront.
Despite the arrival of Steven Rolt, at
times Daventry never got going in the
second-half mainly due to the injury
sustained by influential fly-half Alex
Rose.
Scoring chances were few and far between
in a poor second-half.
A pushover try from Casuals brought them
back into the game at 13-13 before they
were reduced to 14 men.
Daventry lacked penetration and should
have kept the ball in the tight where
they seemed far more comfortable with
the back row of Martyn Skinner, Tom
David and Alistair Brighton impressing.
With 10 minutes to go, sloppy play
allowed Casuals under the posts for a
gift seven points.
Michael Hewitt made up for his error
with a terrific burst of speed to leave
the Casuals' defence floundering and
level the scores at 20-20.
This week Daventry travel to
Wellingborough in a tough away fixture.
