Thursday February 22 - Daventry's hopes of a dream Twickenham final were dashed on Saturday at the hands of a powerful Scarborough outfit.
Daventry All Blacks in action

Despite a fantastic start, the All Blacks struggled for large periods of the RFU Senior Vase 6th round tie but despite showing plenty of endeavour, it was the pace and skill of Scarborough which came to the fore.

The game started at a ferocious pace with Daventry dominating in the forwards and they came close to scoring when Hin Phat Dip was held up just short of the line following a driving maul.

Daventry opened their account when Alex Rose's attempt at goal rebounded off the uprights and from a loose kick, Daventry counter-attacked through Lee Collett and after he was held up just short, Number 8 Alistair Brighton picked up and drove over.

After their score, Daventry pushed for further points via a series of driving mauls and if Alex Rose's cross kick had been more precise, then Daventry were in for a certain score in the far right hand corner.

But the rest of the half was dominated by Scarborough in particular their Samoan flanker Junior Tupai who was instrumental for the visitors, linking the play and commanding the game with real authority.

Scarborough then hit back via winger Lee Gilbank after the forwards had punched holes into the Daventry's midfield defence.

A penalty on the verge of halftime gave the Yorkshire outfit a 10-5 lead which they never looked like giving up.

The second half was one of pure frustration for the Daventry players and supporters with the All Blacks struggling for territory and possession.

Scarborough dominated proceedings and scored two more tries from winger Reid Fairburn.

On the plus side, Daventry defended magnificently especially with the work rates of Anthony Baker and Hin Phat Dip who were outstanding.

When Scarborough spread the ball wide Daventry looked vulnerable and the visitors' ability to execute their game plan proved to be the difference between the sides.

Now Daventry must turn their attention back to the league with a trip to Northampton Casuals this week in what promises to be a tough encounter.
